Just got back from Ayiti today, so much to share, process, analyze, cry and smile about. I will be writing a few things in the next few days, but I got a nasty virus and I have to rest too. It was incredible, painful, beautiful, tragic, enraging, hopeful. Water is the key, we are so privileged. Peace in and out!
Trying to process it all, but one thing was clear, the international community has failed Haiti, from the armored UN vehicles (Is this a rescue mission?), to the non-existent aid, to the lack of clean up after the earthquake, to the inappropriate aid. Another thing is clear, poor and working class Hatitian communities are resourceful, beautiful, brilliant and living dignified lives with almost no resources. It was a pleasure and honor to work with many of them – Nicola, Robertson, Francois, Catalina, Franklin, Claude and their many Dominican sisters and brothers, it really is one country, one island – Ayiti!
