So, to break it down, a CSA means Community Supported Agriculture and in the communities in NYC, the idea is that a group of folks get together to form a relationship with a farmer in rural New York. Through that relationship, we get to support the work, and the farmer delivers the bounty of the earth to us once a week and we get connected with each other and the land.
Simple, isn’t it? It is amazing and we get to support real farmers, to behold and eat good, organic local food without the middle people/corporations.
The history says this started in Europe, um, maybe folowing this model, but I’m sure the idea of sharing good local food didn’t just come just from there.
Did some one say food revolution?
Thanks farmer Claudio Gonzalez, Terry, Ramona, Hannah and the other members of the El Barrio CSA and our sister CSA in Central Harlem!
