Colombus didn’t discover anything/Colón no descubrio nada

How can some one discover places that are already inhabited?  Colombus, genocider and enslaver that he was, was lost and didn’t know where he was anyway.

These maps are from Carl Waldman’s Atlas of the North American Indian, with maps by Molly Braun.  New York:  Facts on File.

As we commemorate another Day of Indigenous People, Dia de la Raza in much of the Spanish-speaking world, it is good to reflect on where we are.  Any one who has been paying attention to history and the various genocidal projects in the Americas and the Caribbean well knows now that there was no meeting, no discovery when Columbus arrived in 1492 after the so-called Reconquista of Spain from the Moors who had controlled it for 700 years.  And that all expansion projects are not equal, though often not not genocidal.  I think those of us who have Spanish blood in our veins, who speak Spanish, and who were nearly but not so conquered by this early European project of conquest, can say alot about what the long history of colonization and its shadow means today in our modern world.

And just a reminder, genocide did not work. Indigenous people still live!
Raza Aun Vive!Ho
