A love letter for my compas, Frantz Fanon’s writing shows how to decolonize everything!

IMG00420-20110914-1505_1I have a deep love and resonance with the writings of Frantz Fanon.  He speaks truth to power in every area, especially the psychology of oppression, breaks it down, disarticulates and unravels it. Many people do not understand the power of his thinking, and many of us do.

There is this awesome book called Asia as Method  Toward Deimperialization by Kuang-Hsing Chen from which I could quote extensively, but I won’t.  In the intro Chen characterizes Fanon, along with Lu Xun, Che Ying-zhen, Stuart Hall, Partha Chatterjee, and Mizoguchi Yuzo as, “(i)n different ways, they all understood that the task of decolonizing culture and mind, desire and body, and the production of knowledge has to proceed from the inner logic of the colonized social formation. Moreover, the struggle cannot be waged only in terms of the statist rearrangement of international relations.  Subjectivity, they have argued, is also a key site of decolonization work.  Only through the process of self-analysis can new strategies be formulated to overcome the limits imposed and shaped by the history of imperialism.” (Chen 2010 x)

My compas, my many dear friends en la lucha show this to me every day as we fight to better our world.  Gloria Anzaldua wrote, “I change myself, I change the world.”  Indeed!

Here is a lovely piece by Frank Wilderson that gets at some of it –

Adelante!

(Chen 2010 x)

Mis compas, mis muchxs queridxs amigxs in the struggle me demuestran esto cada día en la lucha para un mundo mejor.  Gloria Anzaldua escribio, “Me cambio, cambio al mundo.”  !Bakano!
